Baton Rouge woman killed, 8 others from Louisiana hurt in Florida crash

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baton Rouge woman was killed and several others from Louisiana were injured in a Tuesday afternoon Florida crash.

According to the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office, Ernestine Morris, 94, was killed in a crash on Florida’s Turnpike.

On Oct. 15, the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a crash involving a van carrying nine people and an 18-wheeler. FHP said the van was traveling behind the 18-wheeler headed south on Florida’s Turnpike, near Griffin Road. For reasons unknown, the van rear-ended the 18-wheeler.

Eight of the occupants of the van were taken to a local hospital. The ninth occupant, who was identified as Morris, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP.

All of the occupants of the van were Louisiana residents, according to troopers.

The driver of the 18-wheeler did not report any injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation.
