BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The cause of a Friday morning train derailment in Donaldsonville is under investigation.

Crews responded to the train derailment along Highway 3089 near CF Service Road around 7:30 a.m. Hazmat, fire department and Louisiana State Police also responded to the area. The railroad crossing reopened before 1 p.m.

According to deputies, there were no injuries and no hazardous impacts due to the incident. The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office said people may see crews working to clear the derailed train cars and repair the track over the next several days.

“The Louisiana State Police Emergency Services Unit, in coordination with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Union Pacific railroad company, is actively managing the scene and beginning the cleanup process. We ask that the public avoid the area to allow crews to work quickly and safely,” LSP said in a social media post.

A Union Pacific spokesperson said cyanuric acid, commonly known as pool conditioner, was released from three tank cars.

“No waterways have been impacted, and air monitoring is being conducted at the site,” the Union Pacific spokesperson said.
