Game of the Week: St. Amant holds off East Ascension

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — St. Amant High School now leads the all-time series 28-27 over East Ascension High School.

The Gators’ offense got off to a hot start. On their first play from scrimmage, Cooper Babin connected with Timothy Johnson Jr. for a 75-yard pass. Two plays later, Tyree Williams found the endzone to give the Gators an early 7-0 lead.

The Gators’ defense carried that momentum on the following drive, forcing a fumble. St. Amant cashed in on the Spartans’ turnover with a 2-yard rushing touchdown by Williams. East Ascension’s defense buckled down from there, not allowing any points until the fourth quarter.

The Spartans had a chance to take the lead with less than two minutes remaining, but a dropped pass in the endzone sealed the Gators’ second-straight win over East Ascension. St. Amant improves to 4-2, while the Spartans fall to 3-4 on the season.
