Emergency hospital opening in Smith County
RALEIGH, Miss. (WDAM) - Covington County Hospital and South Central Regional Medical Center will be collaborating to open the Smith County Emergency Hospital. The new rural emergency hospital is expected to begin operations in late December 2024 or early January 2025. The hospital will be located at 347 Magnolia Drive in Raleigh.

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - We’ve entered a pattern that will bring us daily rain chances this week. An upper-level trough of low pressure is hanging out very near our region, and we’re in a good spot (in reference to that trough) where showers & storms are expected to develop each afternoon. In some cases, the showers may develop north of our area then get steered south towards us. Regardless, an umbrella is a must-have this week.

Andy Hardwick makes his surprise birthday party worth all the secrecy
JANS – Anderson Hardwick Jr. was born on June 10, 1935. Anderson Sr. and Lillian Hardwick raised him on Crawford Street in Vicksburg, MS. From infancy, he was immersed in music. He had aunts who sang. His Aunt Alma was a school music teacher. His Aunt Hattie owned a radio and record player on which Andy listened to Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Louis Jordan, Lucky Millner, and Jimmy Lunceford’s band. By age 12, Andy played professionally with Fish Man Evans and the Bobcats. He later played with the Rhythm Aces and the Re-Bops.

It’s been a decade coming, but over 70 homes in the Bogue Chitto community have been connected to clean county water for the first time. Many of the citizens who were recently connected to the county water system attended a ceremony at New Vernon Church in Marion Junction Thursday, July 11 to mark the occasion.
