Missouri Minute: Southwest to end open-seating policy; Wentzville UAW workers reach tentative deal
The U.S. economy grew at a 2.8% annual rate in the second quarter, outpacing expectations. The gross domestic product snapshot published Thursday showed second-quarter economic expansion doubled the first quarter's 1.4% rate. The growth was driven primarily by increases in consumer spending for goods and services, private inventory investment and nonresidential fixed investment. Consumers spent the most on goods in the energy sector and health care services. In transportation, the leading carrier at Missouri's two largest airports is ushering in changes for passengers. Southwest Airlines announced it will abandon its open-seating policy in favor of assigned seating and premium options. The airline cited customer experience and financial performance for the change.
