Juneteenth will be acknowledged and celebrated in downtown Brundidge on Saturday, June 22 on the grounds of the Bass House on South Main Street.

Juneteenth, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday in the United States. It is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States.

Brundidge Mayor Isabell Boyd said the event will be a spiritual extravaganza and will include local spiritual singers and ministers and also a day for coming together in acknowledgement of the end of slavery in the United States.

“Everyone is invite to come, bring a lawn chair, enjoy free food, great and meaningful entertainment and good and uplifting fellowship.”

The Juneteenth celebration is being planned by a group of local citizens. For more information about the day’s activities, call 334-372-0503 or 735-2385.
