Citizens of Brundidge celebrated Juneteenth on Saturday at the Bass House on Main Street from noon until 4 p.m.

Brundidge Mayor Isabell Boyd said the celebration featured an amazing lineup of speakers and singers throughout the afternoon.

“The weather was extremely hot so not as many attended as we had thought but all those who came, were inspired and uplifted and blessed,” Boyd said.

The afternoon program included a brief history of Jubilee Day by Jerry Thomas, Jr. and the Rev. Samuel Valentine shared information that gave more insight and greater meaning to the acknowledgement to day of celebration.

The programs included the history of the Juneteenth Celebration by the Reverend Samuel Valentine and gave greater insight and deeper meaning to the messages that followed,” Boyd said.

Willie Moultry’s topic of inspiration was “Having the Faith that One Day We Will Be Free.”

Jerry Thomas shared his thoughts on Jubilee Day and Pastor Louis Beacham spoke on the power of voting.

The Rev. Carl Hollis closed the City of Brundidge’s first Juneteenth celebration with a reminder that “We have Come this far by faith, leaning on God and trusting his word.

“When faith kicks in, God will take you onward. When you go to bed with troubles, trust in God to wake you with in joy in your heart. Faith has brought us this far and God will lead us on.”

Boyd thanked everyone who took part in the City of Brundidge Juneteenth Celebration on a hot summer day.

“We must trust in God to lead us, because, yes, He had led us this far and He will not leave us now.”
