Giving Kids In Greeley More Access To Swimming Lessons
Phillips 66 has written a check for $20,000 to the Greeley Recreation Department to help more kids take swimming lessons. The hope is to add to the number of lifeguards in the community in the long run as a national shortage of lifeguards in recent years has required many pools across the U.S. to shorten hours or close. The Greeley Tribune reports company reps presented the check this week at the Discovery Bay Waterpark, 715 E. 24th St., Greeley.

Brush Area Museum features new exhibits
The Brush Area Museum and Cultural Center features new exhibits and invites everyone to take a break from the hot weather and travel back in time. One of their newest exhibits, Bakelite, is on loan to the museum and showcases items made from synthetic plastic in the early 1900s. Leo Baekeland from Yonkers, New York, developed the plastic in 1907 and patented it on Dec. 7, 1909. This plastic could be molded very quickly, which gave Bakelite an advantage in mass production.

CDOT working to make stretch of I-25 between 104th & Highway 36 safer
Colorado transportation officials are working to improve a heavily congested highway in the northern part of the Denver metro area. The stretch of Interstate 25 between 104th Avenue and Highway 36, also known as the Boulder Turnpike, continues to be a problem spot for car crashes. Communications Manager with CDOT Tamara Rollison said the stretch of I-25 sees an average of two crashes per day. As a result, CDOT is asking travelers, elected officials and residents to share their ideas to make it safer. Avian flu infections lead Colorado to mandate weekly testing of dairy operations
(The Center Square) – All herds of commercial dairy cows will be required to submit weekly samples from tanks to test for avian flu, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The state confirmed 47 dairy herds with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, the most in the country and the only state with more than five cases. The state reported 23 livestock herds were quarantined in early July. The state’s dairy industry accounted for approximately $1.3 billion in 2022 revenue. ...
