    Man allegedly holds woman at knifepoint

    On May 14, Charles sheriff’s officers arrived at Trotter Road in Bryantown for the report of an assault.

    Upon arrival, officers made contact with a woman who said she was sitting in her residence watching a movie when she heard footsteps coming up her basement stairs. She turned around and saw her ex-boyfriend, Clifton Jerome Goldring, 63, of Bryantown, with a steak knife in his hand, charging documents say.

    The woman asked the Goldring why he was there and he allegedly held the knife up and said “I love you” before approaching the woman and kissing her, charging documents say. She pulled away from Goldring and he allegedly held the knife to her throat.

    The woman was able to run away from the defendant, exit her residence, flee in a vehicle and call the police.

    Goldring fled in a pickup truck belonging to the woman, charging documents say.

    While officers were speaking to the woman, Goldring allegedly called the woman to talk to her and tell the police that he was turning himself in. A short time later, Goldring returned and was placed into custody.

    Goldring is facing two counts of first-degree assault and one count of first-degree burglary.

    Shots fired in road rage incident

    On May 18, Charles sheriff’s officers responded to the area of Berry Road and Western Parkway for the report of shots fired.

    Upon arrival, an officer located the caller’s vehicle and had them pull over to a safe location to obtain statements. Officers were told that while driving on Berry Road there was a dark-colored Cadillac driving erratically and trying to block the person’s vehicle in.

    The caller said that the driver of the Cadillac allegedly pulled next to their car, rolled down the window and brandished a black handgun, charging documents say.

    After slowing their vehicle in an attempt to create space from the suspect’s vehicle, the suspect slowed down to get next to the vehicle. The caller said they heard and saw a shot from the suspect with the handgun pointed at them, the documents say.

    One of the people in the vehicle was able to obtain the suspect’s license plate, leading to his arrest on Smallwood Drive later that evening.

    The suspect was identified as Gary Charles Seek, 44, of Waldorf. He allegedly made statements indicating he was involved in a road rage incident while out delivering food earlier that evening.

    Seek faces first- and second-degree assault charges and one count of reckless endangerment from a vehicle.

    Detectives arrest suspect in armed robbery case

    Charles detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division have identified and arrested a man wanted in connection with an armed robbery case.

    On Feb. 22, a man and a woman entered a home improvement store on Jefferson Place in Waldorf. They picked up several items and approached a cashier. The woman paid for her items. The man allegedly concealed merchandise and left the store without paying, a release from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office said.

    The man was approached by a loss prevention officer at which time he displayed a handgun. The suspect fled in a car with the female, the release says.

    Through investigation, the male suspect was identified as DeShawn Grant, 35, of no fixed address. A search warrant was served at the location where Grant was staying and detectives recovered evidence.

    Grant was charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and other related charges. Grant is currently being held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center.

    Investigators recover guns, large quantity of fentanyl

    On May 15, pursuant to an ongoing drug investigation, detectives assigned to the Narcotics Enforcement Section of the Charles sheriff’s office served a search warrant at a residence on Jameson Court in Indian Head. The subject of the investigation, Carlos Leon Baker, 35, of Indian Head, was arrested on-site.

    During the search, detectives recovered two handguns, more than 500 fentanyl pills and a large amount of cash, a release from the sheriff’s office says.

    Baker was charged with possession with the intent to distribute narcotics, illegal possession of firearms due to a previous felony conviction, possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime and other related charges. He is currently being held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center.

    Woman faces drug charges after traffic stop

    On May 17, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputies were conducting traffic enforcement on Great Mills Road when a stop was made on a Chevrolet Uplander with suspected illegal window tint. The vehicle was driven by Danielle Lynette Washington, 37, of Lexington Park.

    According to a sheriff’s office press release, a K9 search of the vehicle yielded quantities of suspected oxycodone hydrochloride pills, suspected cocaine and suspected crack cocaine.

    Washington was arrested and charged with two counts each of possession of narcotics with intent to distribute and possession of drugs.

    On May 17, Washington posted $15,000 and was released. A district court hearing date has not been set.

    Virginia fugitive nabbed

    On May 14, Deputy Vincent Pontorno of the St. Mary’s sheriff’s office arrested a 27-year-old Dameron man on a charge of being a fugitive from Virginia.

    According to court records, defendant Joshua Tyler Garrett is a former resident of Hampton, Va.

    Garrett is wanted in Colonial Heights, Va., for check forgery charges.

    He is currently being held in St. Mary’s County on a no-bond status and has waived extradition to Virginia. A district court hearing on his fugitive charge is scheduled for May 29.

    One charged with taking vehicle, assault

    A court summons has been issued for a 42-year-old Lexington Park woman who allegedly took another woman’s Kia, failed to return it and later assaulted her.

    According to Deputy H. Deitrich, the defendant, Christina Marie Russell, allegedly took the Kia Sportage May 17 during the early morning hours. Several hours later the vehicle was located and had damage to its steering column and was missing its radio system.

    Russell’s accuser tried to get her keys back from her and was allegedly assaulted.

    Russell is charged with felony theft, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and second-degree assault. A district court hearing on the charges she is facing is scheduled for June 28.

    Lexington Park man charged with drug distribution

    On May 17, Deputy Joseph Senatore conducted a traffic stop at Route 235 in the area of Pegg Road. A gold Mercedes Benz appeared to have illegal window tinting.

    The driver and sole occupant of the Mercedes was identified as Aaron Dwayne Johnson Jr., 27, of Lexington Park. Senatore learned Johnson was driving on a suspended license and was wanted for failure to appear in court.

    Due to Johnson’s known drug history, Senatore said he had deputies conduct a K9 search. The search led to the discovery of a quantity of crack cocaine, a digital rolling tray and a large amount of cash.

    Johnson was charged with possession with intent to distribute narcotics and two counts of drug possession.

    Johnson was ordered held without bond. A district court hearing on the charges he is facing is scheduled for June 6.

    Man charged in hit-and-run

    On May 18, deputies from the St. Mary’s sheriff’s office responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Great Mills Road in Lexington Park. Several witnesses told deputies one of the drivers fled the crash scene on foot.

    According to a sheriff’s office press release, the crash was a head-on and the motorist who fled was the alleged at-fault driver. That driver — identified as Patrick Shawn Daly Jr., 35, of Lexington Park — was arrested and charged with failure to remain at the scene of an accident with injuries and driving without a license, according to court papers.

    The driver of the other vehicle was taken to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of injuries.

    On May 20, Daly was released on his own recognizance. A district court hearing on the charges Daly is facing is scheduled for June 18.

    Deputy nabs fugitive

    On May 15, Deputy Jeffrey Murphy of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office apprehended a 51-year-old Lusby man who is wanted in Spotsylvania County, Va., for alleged credit card fraud. Defendant Joseph Lindsey Cranford III is being held without bond in Calvert.

    According to court records, Cranford has voluntarily waived extradition to Virginia.

    A district court hearing on Cranford’s fugitive charge is scheduled for June 11.

    St. Mary’s man charged with drug, weapon offenses

    On May 12, Cpl. Stephen Bowlan of the Calvert sheriff’s office responded to the Quality Inn in Solomons for the report of a suspicious vehicle.

    Bowlan made contact with the driver, identified as Nicholas Logan Tayman, 27, of Ridge, whose van was idling in the parking lot.

    A search of the van yielded a digital scale, an open container of alcohol and a suspected marijuana cigarette, which were observed in plain view, according to charging documents. Further investigation revealed that Tayman attempted to remove two large bags of suspected cannabis totaling over 130 grams from the van.

    A further search revealed a loaded Glock-style handgun, several plastic bags and a digital scale.

    Tayman was charged with having a loaded handgun in his vehicle, possessing drug equipment for distribution and drug distribution with a firearm.

    On May 14 Tayman posted $10,000 bond and was released. A district court hearing on the charges he is facing is scheduled for June 11.

    Anne Arundel man charged with taking woman’s vehicle

    On May 14, Deputy Peter Aurich was sent to the Dunkirk area to investigate a report of a vehicle being taken.

    A woman told Aurich her ex-boyfriend took her 2002 Toyota Solara from a service station parking area. She identified the defendant as Brandon John-Paul Sebrell, 31, of Lothian.

    Sebrell was charged with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and felony theft.

    A court summons for Sebrell was issued May 15. A court hearing on the charges he is facing is scheduled for July 1.

    Lusby man charged with distribution of drugs

    On May 18, Deputy Andrew Crum of the Calvert sheriff’s office was dispatched to the Dalrymple Road area of Sunderland area for the report of a person who appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

    The man was later identified as Jacob Tanner Papanicolas, 26, of Lusby.

    Crum stated in court papers that Papanicolas was uncooperative as deputies were interviewing him and also when they searched him. The search led to the discovery of approximately 19 grams of suspected cocaine.

    Papanicolas is charged with possession with intent to distribute drugs, drug possession and obstructing and hindering.

    After a review on Monday, Papanicolas remains in jail on a no bond status. A district court hearing on the charges he is facing is scheduled for June 17.

    Unsolved theft probed

    On May 7, Deputy Robert Burggraff of the Calvert sheriff’s office responded to the 2700 block of Cove Lake Street in Lusby for the report of a burglary.

    The complainant reported that sometime between midnight and 5 a.m., someone entered a shed on the property and stole five dirt bikes, including a 2014 KTM 200 SC-W, a 2016 Kawasaki KLX 140, a 2017 Yamaha YZ 85, a 2016 Yamaha PW 50 and a 2007 Yamaha TTR-90.

    The estimated value of stolen property is $15,500.
