Evy Leibfarth has won her first Olympic medal.
Driving the news: The 20-year-old Bryson City native, who frequently trains at the U.S. National Whitewater Center , won bronze Wednesday in the women's canoe single final.

- She made history at the Tokyo Olympic Games as the youngest athlete to represent the U.S. in canoe slalom.

What she's saying: "It's so crazy," Leibfarth said. "I didn't really think that it would happen for me, I guess. It's always been such a big goal but it seems crazy that I'm an Olympic medallist."
- She won her first Olympic medal with her family and best friends present. Her dad is her coach.
- "It's just so special to know that everyone who's been a part of this journey is here for this moment," she said.

What's next: Leibfarth will compete on Aug. 2 in the women's kayak cross time trials, which starts at 10:40am ET. She is set to go 19th. You'll be able to find her results here .
- "I still have one more event here, so I'm going to refocus myself, even though I'm so excited," Leibfarth said after her Wednesday win. "After that, I'm going to freak out at home."
Zoom out: It's been a whirlwind of medals for Team USA .
- Naya Tapper, a West Mecklenburg High alumna, and fellow North Carolinian Sammy Sullivan, made history at the Olympics, helping Team USA claim its first rugby sevens medal. The team won bronze.
