Police identify man charged with crashing into cemetery in Buchanan County
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Officials have identified the driver involved in a Buchanan County crash that left several grave markers destroyed over the weekend. The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office said that 1999 Ford F250 crashed through a cemetery on the north edge of Quasqueton over the weekend. Pictures posted on the sheriff’s office’s Facebook page show tire marks going over the curb and into the cemetery.

Rural Independence man injured in tractor accident
INDEPENDENCE — A rural Independence man was taken to the hospital after a tractor drove over him in an accident on Saturday morning. The man’s identity and condition were not immediately available, but he suffered serious injuries and was flown to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, according to the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office.
Hazleton man airlifted after falling off tractor
BUCHANAN COUNTY, Iowa — A man was airlifted Saturday after he fell off a tractor. The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office says it was called to the 2000 block of 170th Street around 6:45am Saturday. Investigators say Daniel Hoveland was climbing onto the Massey Ferguson 225 tractor when he lost his balance. Authorities say he hit the shifter, causing the tractor to roll forward. He then fell against a fence and wound up partially underneath the tractor as it was moving.

Buchanan County Health Center Auxiliary Awards $8,400 in Scholarships to Students Entering or Continuing Education in Healthcare
INDEPENDENCE – On June 6th, the Buchanan County Health Center Auxiliary held their annual scholarship presentation at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence. Each year, the BCHC Auxiliary awards scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to graduating seniors from East Buchanan, Independence, and Jesup School Districts, and awards scholarships to nontraditional and current college students entering or continuing their education in a human health care related field. Due to the rising costs of college tuition, the BCHC Auxiliary Board approved the increase of all scholarships in 2024 by $200, and were able to award seven scholarships this year. The following individuals were awarded a $1,200 scholarship for entering or continuing their education in a human healthcare related field:
