    Substance abuse is not a mental health disorder. Not only can I tell you this because I am recovering alcoholic but I am also in school working towards a bachelor's degree in psychology. Mental health can often can be a cause for people turning to addiction. Addiction is a neurological disease it is not a mental health disorder substance abuse can can cause temporary mental health disorders
