BUCKHANNON, W.Va. (WBOY) — In response to a record number of dog and cat surrenders and seizures, the Lewis-Upshur Animal Control Facility in Buckhannon is asking the community for help.

Jennifer Kesling, a volunteer at the facility, is urging people to consider adoption for Sunday’s emergency adoption event. While it is scheduled to take place from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on July 28, Kesling stated that after-hour adoptions can also be arranged.

“The pound is overflowing with dogs doubled and tripled in kennels,” Kesling said in an email to 12 News. “Our normal rescue partners are also full so cats and dogs are not being moved.”

Several animals at the facility could be at risk of euthanasia if space is not made by Monday, July 29.

More information on animals waiting to be adopted can be found on the Lewis Upshur Animal Control Facebook page , the Lewis-Upshur Animal Control Facility website or by calling 304-472-3865.
