West Virginia wrestling snags commitment from hometown heavyweight state champion
Earlier this week, WVU wrestling snagged a commitment from one of the top talents in the state of West Virginia -- and they didn't even have to leave town to find him. Brock Kehler, a senior at University High School in Morgantown, has announced he will be joining the Mountaineers after he wraps up his high school career this season. As a junior, Kehler competed in the 285-pound weight class and captured his third consecutive state championship.

Tarik Phillip Joins Best Virginia
Monday afternoon, the Final Fourcast announced former West Virginia University guard Tarik Phillip has officially joined Best Virginia for The Basketball Tournament (TBT). State law change credited with Morgantown firefighter holiday pay policy change
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Changes proposed to firefighter pay in Morgantown are in step with compliance for the implementation of Senate Bill 557, sponsored by Mike Oliverio, R. Monongalia, 12. The law, which took effect 90 days after passage, dictates that municipalities must compensate firefighters who are required to work holidays for their entire shift, even if the work shift spans two calendar days.

West Virginia native, WVU alum Sean Merinar living out dream in Mountaineer athletic department
Sean Merinar isn't a name that most WVU sports fans know, but he plays an integral role in the fan experience of the collective Mountaineer Nation. Merinar current serves as the Assistant Director of Athletics Video Production, an occupation which sees him handle gameday video board activities for every WVU program, as well as game day footage for select road contests. W.Va. Campus Self-Defense Act now in effect
Today (July 1) is the take-effect date across the Mountain State for Senate Bill 10, the W.Va. Campus Self-Defense Act. Passed by the West Virginia Legislature in 2023, the Campus Self-Defense Act allows a person to carry a concealed pistol or revolver on the grounds of an institution of higher education, with some exceptions, if that person has a current and valid license to carry a concealed deadly weapon.
Aerial black fly treatments scheduled for July 2
Greenbrier, Co. (WVDN) – The West Virginia Department of Agriculture will be conducting aerial treatments for biological suppression of black flies on the Greenbrier, New, and Bluestone rivers on Tuesday, July 2, weather, and water levels permitting. Based on weather and water levels, the treatments may potentially continue into Wednesday, July 3rd. Changing Climate Contributes to Record Tornado Season
Weather researchers at Iowa State University say a shifting climate and warmer ocean temperatures are partially responsible for a record number of tornadoes this spring. More than 100 were reported in Iowa, in May alone. Eleven hundred tornadoes were reported regionwide in May, from Texas to Minnesota and from West Virginia to Georgia. That’s more than twice the 30-year average. One of the fiercest killed five people and injured dozens in rural Greenfield, Iowa.
Researchers find popular heart medicine showing up in W.Va. fish
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Researchers at West Virginia University are finding levels of some of the most prescribed heart medications showing up in fish in West Virginia waters. Joseph Kingsbury, a doctoral student at WVU, and is conducting research overseen by Dr. Kyle Hartman, professor, wildlife and fisheries resources, WVU Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design in Morgantown.
