West Virginia native, WVU alum Sean Merinar living out dream in Mountaineer athletic department
Sean Merinar isn't a name that most WVU sports fans know, but he plays an integral role in the fan experience of the collective Mountaineer Nation. Merinar current serves as the Assistant Director of Athletics Video Production, an occupation which sees him handle gameday video board activities for every WVU program, as well as game day footage for select road contests. He also films and edits feature pieces on the WVU football team.
W.Va. Campus Self-Defense Act now in effect
Today (July 1) is the take-effect date across the Mountain State for Senate Bill 10, the W.Va. Campus Self-Defense Act. Passed by the West Virginia Legislature in 2023, the Campus Self-Defense Act allows a person to carry a concealed pistol or revolver on the grounds of an institution of higher education, with some exceptions, if that person has a current and valid license to carry a concealed deadly weapon.
Aerial black fly treatments scheduled for July 2
Greenbrier, Co. (WVDN) – The West Virginia Department of Agriculture will be conducting aerial treatments for biological suppression of black flies on the Greenbrier, New, and Bluestone rivers on Tuesday, July 2, weather, and water levels permitting. Based on weather and water levels, the treatments may potentially continue into Wednesday, July 3rd. Changing Climate Contributes to Record Tornado Season
Weather researchers at Iowa State University say a shifting climate and warmer ocean temperatures are partially responsible for a record number of tornadoes this spring. More than 100 were reported in Iowa, in May alone. Eleven hundred tornadoes were reported regionwide in May, from Texas to Minnesota and from West Virginia to Georgia. That’s more than twice the 30-year average. One of the fiercest killed five people and injured dozens in rural Greenfield, Iowa.
Researchers find popular heart medicine showing up in W.Va. fish
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Researchers at West Virginia University are finding levels of some of the most prescribed heart medications showing up in fish in West Virginia waters. Joseph Kingsbury, a doctoral student at WVU, and is conducting research overseen by Dr. Kyle Hartman, professor, wildlife and fisheries resources, WVU Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design in Morgantown.

WVU Track Star Qualifies for Paris Olympics
WVU fans now have an extra incentive to watch the upcoming Olympics. Mountaineer track star Ceili McCabe qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games earlier this week. The West Virginia senior will represent Canada in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase after finishing in first place at the Canadian Athletics Bell Track and Field Championships in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on Thursday evening.

Mostly clear skies and rising temperatures for the next few days
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - Welcome into July NCWV! We woke up this morning to mostly cloudy skies across the area. This cloud coverage has already begun to start moving out of NCWV and will be fully out of our area by 10AM, leaving us with mostly clear to partly cloudy skies throughout the rest of the day! High temperatures today are going to be well below average, with highs only getting into the mid to high 70s in the lowlands and the high 60s in the higher elevations. These temperatures will warm up as high pressure settles into the area getting back into the low 90s by Wednesday. One thing that won’t change until Wednesday is that cloud coverage, we are going to continue to see these mostly clear to partly cloudy skies throughout tomorrow until an increase in cloud coverage due to a frontal system moves into our area on Wednesday evening. Rain showers and storms are associated with this frontal system and will be here throughout most of the day on the 4th of July and into Friday as well.
