Billygoats earn home victory against Swans

The Buckman Billygoats ended the Fourth of July weekend upsetting the Swanville Swans Sunday, July 7. The Billygoats ended the game 7-1.

The Swans struck first, with an RBI-hit from Travis Barthel, bringing Hudson Pung from third base to home. The Billygoats answered in the bottom of the second inning with two singles hit by Matt Krummett and Andrew Ruekert Matt Taugtes hit a two-run single to give the Billygoats a 2-1 lead.

The Billygoats took off from there, including a solo home run from Ben Thoma in the bottom of the third inning. Taugtes capped the Billygoats’ score with his third RBI in the bottom of the sixth inning

Krummet went 4-5 at the plate with one run. Taughtes with his three RBIs, one walk and one stolen base. Others with RBIs were Travis Kahl, and Thoma. Taughtes was on the mound for six innings, throwing 10 strikeouts and allowing five hits. Thoma pitched two innings with four strikeouts and Reese Young pitched one inning with one strikeout. The Billygoats ended the game with 14 hits.

Pung went 2-4 at the plate for the Swans. Barthel went 2-3, with a double and an RBI. Pung and Barthel each pitched three innings. Pung allowed seven hits and Barthel allowed two. Troy Evans pitched two innings, surrendering five hits.

The Billygoats traveled to their last regular season game against the Nisswa Lightning Saturday, July 13. The Swans also traveled to take on the Freeport Black Sox Friday July 12th and the St. Stephen Steves Saturday, July 13.
