MDI native named DCP director of early childhood programs
ELLSWORTH — Downeast Community Partners (DCP) has welcomed Naomi McIsaac of Mount Desert Island as the Director of Early Childhood Programs. “Her scholastic expertise and experience as an academic educator at every level, from infant/toddlers to elementary and middle, as well as the collegiate level, superbly equips her to lead DCP’s Early Childhood Programs,” stated DCP Executive Director Rebecca Palmer.
23rd annual Luminaria Evening scheduled for August 10
BAR HARBOR — YWCA MDI will hold its 23rd annual Carol Dyer Memorial Luminaria Evening on Saturday, August 10 to benefit the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center. The first luminaria evening took place in 2001 to celebrate the life of Carol Dyer, a local children’s librarian and friend of YWCA MDI. The event has become a local tradition, with hundreds of luminaria lining the sidewalks of the Bar Harbor Village Green on a night every August. Each personalized luminaria is dedicated to a friend or family member lost to or fighting cancer. Together, they illuminate the night with hope for a cancer-free world.

Housing vision: Chrostowsky eyes ‘Great American Neighborhood’ in Wiscasset
Could Wiscasset’s long-held, ex-Maine Yankee land become a “Great American Neighborhood” with 110 units for a range of incomes and life stages? In a July 25 letter to Town Manager Dennis Simmons, Economic Development Director Aaron Chrostowsky proposes the town ask Lincoln County for American Rescue Plan Act funds to plan the use of the town’s nearly 300 acres along Back River between Old Ferry, Birch Point and Westport Island Bridge roads for a “Great American Neighborhood,” walkable and linked to Old Ferry Boat Landing and Chewonki Foundation’s Cushman Preserve, and integrating “fiber-to-home technology, clean energy and green infrastructure.”
Crash on Route 1 in Woolwich seriously injures several people
WOOLWICH, Maine — Several people were injured Tuesday afternoon in a crash on Route 1 in Woolwich. Deputies responded to several reports about a two-vehicle crash shortly before 2 p.m. on Route 1 in front of Kennebec Equipment Rental in Woolwich, the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

The only place to put the new County jail is Loring. Plenty of room for whatever services are to be offered. Also room for inmates to do plenty of outside activities and maybe work at the new potato chip factory or other businesses locating there. Also inmates are away from the general population.
