Change in leadership, cleaning, safety services, but Bratwurst Festival 'is here to stay'

Plans are underway for the 2024 Bratwurst Festival in downtown Bucyrus with a familiar face as the director of the festival.

Larry West, former long-time festival director, is back at the helm after Kevin Myers stepped down from the position.

“I want to spend more time with my family,” said Myers, who is a member of the Bucyrus City Council.

City Council voted 4-1 in May to repeal a resolution that authorized the city service-safety director to enter into a permanent agreement with the Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival to provide safety forces and cleaning services at no charge.

Myers had abstained from voting on the issue along with fellow council member Aaron Sharrock.

In a news release from Kate Volk, Bratwurst Festival public relations and community engagement coordinator, she said that amidst recent debates, the festival board wants to reassure everyone the Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival is here to stay.

She said discussions with the city were solely about discontinuing free trash pick-up services, not about ending the festival.

“Our community’s beloved tradition continues, and we look forward to many more years of celebrating together,” said Volk in the release.

She said this year’s platinum and title sponsor for the festival is Eagle Crusher.

Featured entertainment includes Wayne Golob, Iconic Vibe, Julia Neville and the Wet Bandits, along with the many contests that are held throughout the festival that kicks runs Aug. 15-17.

Other features include the Arts and Craft Shows, a 5K Color Run or Walk, a festival beer garden, parades and more.
