ColoradoSPH and LEAD Center Take a Lead Role in Second Cycle of ECHO Program
The Lifecourse Epidemiology of Adiposity & Diabetes (LEAD) Center at Colorado SPH has received a $17.8 million award from the National Institutes of Health for a seven-year cycle of the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program. The award funds a new pregnancy study to examine the effects of environmental exposures on 810 pregnant people and their children recruited from Denver Health and UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital.

DU Expands Efforts to Protect Older Adults From Financial Fraud
Older Americans are at high risk for financial fraud, losing more than $20 billion annually, according to a 2023 report from AARP. Colorado fire crews responded to a grass fire near North Turkey Creek Road that left both directions of US 285 closed.Colorado Department of Transportation says US 285 was closed both directions due to a grass fire burning near North Turkey Creek Road and Summer Road.CDOT advised drivers to seek alternative routes as traffic cameras show traffic stopped while crews work on the Twin Forks fire. The grass fire prompted evacuations in the area. While crews continue to monitor the fire after ruling it 100% contained, residents in Tiny Town have been ruled to avoid the area until crews fully put out hot spots in the area.Mark Techmeyer with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office discussed the fire in a press conference on Sunday and said that it burned approximately six acres as volunteer firefighters helped contain the fire at 100%.

Boulder Takes FAA To Court To Close Airport
The City of Boulder, Colorado, is taking the FAA to court saying a clause in its grant obligations to the agency is constitutional overreach. The city has already stopped accepting grants with an eye to closing the airport in 2040 when the last obligations reach their 20-year expiry, but the FAA says it may never allow the airport to be closed. That’s because three grants, one of them from 65 years ago, were used to buy land for the airport, and that triggers a clause that requires the airport to be operated in perpetuity unless the FAA agrees to release Boulder from those obligations.
Colorado deputies move 600-pound moose
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) helped move a 600-pound moose spotted in a yard in south Jefferson County. The moose was looking into windows and taking a break in the yard, according to the JCSO. It took eight people to move the moose, and JCSO animal control officers and deputies helped Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) safely transport the moose back home.
