NW Iowa under water
Sioux Rapids, Linn Grove and Peterson were inundated with record-setting flooding over the weekend. The Little Sioux River reached its crest early Sunday afternoon at nearly 30 feet at Linn Grove, six feet above its previous record in 2019, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The causes were torrential rains near southeast South Dakota and southern Minnesota. Rain totals exceeded 18 inches near Canton, S.D. Some areas in Iowa got as much as 15 inches of rain. Hot temperatures and a high pressure system over the East Coast have slowed storm systems in the Midwest, meaning more rain on already wet ground.
