Roswell names new chief strategy officer
Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center has appointed Dr. Sai Yendamuri as chief strategy officer and senior vice president of business development and outreach. <\p> Yendamuri, who joined the hospital in 2007, has served as chair of thoracic surgery since 2015 and leads a grant portfolio of more than $6 million. His work focuses on understanding the connections between obesity and cancer as well as care for patients undergoing lung resection.<\p>

Just in time for the summer season, boaters have a new amenity for food and sundries.<\p> Avalon Marina Concierge is a new business offering on-demand food and catering as well as provisions, transportation, accommodations and specialty spa services to boaters at marinas from Youngstown down to Buffalo’s Outer Harbor. <\p>
How much will WNY superintendents earn in 2024-25?
The average school superintendent salary in Western New York will go up by more than $7,000 next year.<\p> The average salary, not including benefits, for Western New York superintendents will be $187,059, up from $179,874 last year, according to New York State Education Department data for superintendents’ salaries for the 2024-25 school year in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee and Niagara counties.<\p>
Hamburg estate sells for $2.05M
A Hamburg estate with views of Lake Erie and the Buffalo skyline has sold for over $2 million.<\p> David and Patricia Burke of Orchard Park recently sold the property at 6046 Old Lake Shore Road for $2.05 million to Patricia Belanger as trustee of the Patricia L. Belanger Living Trust, according to June 6 filings with the Erie County clerk’s office.<\p>
WeWork emerges from bankruptcy, appoints new CEO
After filing for bankruptcy protection in November, New York-based WeWork Inc. said Tuesday it has emerged from Chapter 11 and completed its operational and financial restructuring.<\p> The coworking giant's new era will include a new board of directors and a new chief executive. John Santora will become WeWork's new CEO, effective Wednesday. Santora joins WeWork from commercial real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield PLC (NYSE: CWK), where he most recently served as the firm’s Tri-State chairman.<\p>
Amherst office building sold for $3.2M
A local developer has purchased an Amherst office building at 8600 Transit Road for $3.2 million.<\p> 8600 Transit LLC, an affiliate of Faizan Haq, purchased the building from Iskalo 8600 Transit LLC, an affiliate of Iskalo Development Corp.<\p>
A key housing metric just fell to its lowest-point ever
The Fannie Mae Home Purchase Sentiment — a gauge of how good buyers feel about the housing market — fell to its lowest number since the agency began measuring it in 2010.<\p> In May, just 14% of consumers surveyed by the agency said it was a good time to buy a home, down from 20% in April. Those who said it was a bad time to buy increased to 86%. <\p>
$50.8M restoration of historic hotel begins again
A $50.8 million redevelopment plan is in the works for the historic Hotel Niagara in downtown Niagara Falls.<\p> Syracuse-based Brine Wells Development LLC has resubmitted an application through an affiliate to the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency to regain incentives, with a goal of starting work this fall to create an upscale, 160-room hotel. The project is on the agenda for June 12. <\p>
Waterfront home sale is 2024's most expensive so far
A waterfront home in Buffalo has nabbed the top spot on the list of the year's most expensive residential sales. <\p> Patricia Belanger, as trustee of the Patricia L. Belanger Living Trust, recently sold 48 Waterfront Circle, Buffalo, for $2.5 million to 48 Waterfront Circle LLC, according to June 6 filings with the Erie County clerk’s office.<\p>
One WNY ZIP code makes inaugural Wealthy 1000 list
A single local ZIP code broke into a new ranking of the nation's 1,000 wealthiest places. <\p> That’s according to The Business Journals Wealthy 1000, a new ranking of the nation's wealthiest ZIP codes based on a weighted formula that looks at a number of wealth metrics. <\p>
New Era Cap lands multi-year Olympic deal
New Era Cap is joining Team USA.<\p> The international sports and lifestyle brand announced a multi-year “official product” agreement with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams. This means the Buffalo-based company will create exclusive sportswear for both teams for Paris 2024, Milan 2026 and Los Angeles 2028. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. <\p>
BOCES seeking up to 200K sq. ft. of new space in Erie
Erie 1 BOCES is seeking a new building to house its exceptional education programs.<\p> District superintendent and CEO Michael Capuana said BOCES is looking for a space between 160,000 and 200,000 square feet in the Cheektowaga, Amherst or another central area to serve 19 school districts.<\p>
Williamsville boutique to close, plus other retail news
After seven years of business, a local clothing boutique is permanently closing. <\p> RuthAnn Boutique, located at 5350 Main St., Williamsville, will close June 29, the business announced on Facebook. The boutique’s online store is no longer available, and the shop has begun its going-out-of-business sale.<\p>
New owners for Buffalo tavern as Calvaneso pares his portfolio
As business ramps up at his new restaurant, Steve Calvaneso is selling another piece of his portfolio in Amherst.<\p> Bogie’s Bar & Grill at 4414 Bailey Ave. will transition to new owners Chris Gullion and John Zeman of Saranac Lake Emporium LLC, who plan to keep things just as they are, other than shifting the name to Bogie's Tavern.<\p>
See inside the newly renovated Wood & Brooks building
The transformation of a long-vacant piano key factory into apartments and co-working space is nearly complete. Wood & Brooks Lofts and the Plan Room, both located at 2075 Kenmore Ave., Tonawanda, are now accepting tenants, with move-ins expected in early fall.<\p> Developer Michael Wopperer said he hopes the completion of the $23.1 million project is just the beginning for the former Wood & Brooks factory complex. He plans to start renovating the other nearby buildings once work on the largest structure is done.<\p>

The owner of a vacant Niagara Falls hotel has a $16 million plan for an elaborate remodel that would turn the building into a rock-and-roll themed destination.<\p> Live-USA Incorporated plans to turn the 80-room building at 472 Main St. into Hotel Live!, a luxury hotel with a restaurant and bar. The building has previously been a Niagara Inn and a Howard Johnson.<\p>
Big deadlines loom for Realtors commission lawsuits
The class-action lawsuits that rocked the residential real estate industry over the last year are barreling toward a possible conclusion — and some big changes in the remainder of 2024. <\p> One of the most important deadlines is Aug. 17, 2024, when the NAR has said it would implement a series of changes as part of its own $418 million settlement agreement over buyer commissions. <\p>
