As it works to expand in-house, the Salty Chefs is looking to turn its best customers into investors.<\p> The restaurant, which opened two years ago at 111 Genesee St. in Buffalo, is adding grab-and-go offerings as well as more catering options to supplement the business coming in from area hospitals and corporate offices. <\p>
Brownfields: Polluted land drives a development boom
Contaminated land used to be a death sentence for development projects in Western New York. Now, it's a lucrative commodity.<\p> "Twenty years ago we would find contamination and developers would throw up their hands and say, 'I can't believe you found contamination. This will kill the deal,' " said Michael Lesakowski, vice president and principal scientist at the environmental firm Roux. "Now they throw their hands up and say, 'I can't believe you didn't find contamination. I need it for the Brownfield Cleanup Program.'"<\p>

Community Action Organization of Western New York has appointed Marie Cannon its new president and CEO. <\p> She comes to the agency from Erie County, where she has been commissioner of the Department of Social Services since 2018 overseeing a budget of $618 million and 1,600 employees. <\p>
$43.6M Genesee County project proposed for undisclosed occupant
A developer is planning to build a $43.6 million facility in Bergen's Apple Tree Acres business park that would create 60 jobs, but the proposed occupant is being kept under wraps.<\p> Developer GE Bergen Owner is seeking about $4.27 million in tax incentives from the Genesee County Economic Development Center for the project.<\p>
Carmina Wood Design's downtown headquarters sells for $1.35M
Steve Carmina, and Christopher Wood of Carmina Wood Design have sold the company's longtime home at 487 Main St. ahead of the firm's planned move to Silo City.<\p> The pair's 487 Main Street LLC sold the six-story building for $1.35 million to 487 Main LLC, a partnership between attorney Richard Nicotra and chiropractor Dr. Adam Bowman.<\p>
Labatt USA to leave Perry St. space in search of smaller HQ
Labatt USA is leaving its 79 Perry St. headquarters less than six years after first moving in.<\p> The brand, owned by parent company FIFCO USA, is opting for a smaller Buffalo-area headquarters amid changing work trends.<\p>

Manufacturers are among the most vulnerable industries when it comes to cybersecurity attacks, according to the partners at DataSure 24, a cybersecurity firm in Buffalo.<\p> CEO Peter Ronca and Chief Technology Officer Mark Musone are the majority partners in the firm, which employs 16 people and has an office in Buffalo’s Cobblestone District. While DataSure offers cybersecurity services for a variety of industries, Musone said he sees the most security breaches in manufacturing.<\p>

Diocese of Buffalo selling another Buffalo building for $1.5M
The Diocese of Buffalo is looking to sell off another of its Buffalo properties as bankruptcy proceedings continue.<\p> The Diocese on Tuesday listed the St. Jude Center at 760 Ellicott St., near the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. The asking price is $1.5 million. <\p>

Weed company building large grow center here merges with Fla. company
A Toronto-based cannabis company with a large grow facility planned in Buffalo has merged with a Tampa, Florida-based company to become a multi-state operator. <\p> Cansortium Inc., one of Florida’s largest cannabis operators, announced last week its plans to merge with RIV Capital, which owns the medical cannabis brand Etain and is building a 68,000-square-foot grow facility in Buffalo. RIV will be the largest tenant of Zephyr Investments LLC’s planned 1.375 million-square-foot cannabis campus at Buffalo Lakeside Commerce Park.<\p>

St. Bonaventure University has named Bob Beretta a vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics at St. Bonaventure. <\p> According to the college’s Tuesday announcement, Beretta — formerly the LeMoyne College athletic director — will be introduced to the campus Friday and begin the role later this summer. <\p>
