Community supports local artist in fight against breast cancer with fundraiser

BUFFALO CITY, WIS (WKBT)-- A beloved artist and musician receives community support after her stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis.

On Saturday, July 13th, a fundraiser was held for Tess Erickson, a musician from the Mankato area, to help pay for her medical treatments after being diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer earlier this year.

The community was invited to support Erickson by purchasing a BBQ chicken dinner and participating in a silent auction and poker run at The Lost Pirate in Buffalo City.

Erickson's journey to recovery could take about a year. She said now that she fully understands her cancer diagnosis, she feels prepared to brave through it.

"I wish somebody would have told me doing all this is that its only temporary and you can fight it and at first they only give you little bits and pieces of information but don't panic and just get all the pieces of information and then understand your cancer once you can understand it, it's a lot less scary," said Erickson
