    2024-06-25

BUFFALO, N.Y. — An 18-year-old woman was arraigned on charges Sunday morning following a Saturday shooting on Bailey Avenue that left a 53-year-old woman wounded, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.

Around 3:20 p.m., police responded to the 1600 block of Bailey Avenue after reports of a car being shot at. Inside the vehicle were a 13-year-old girl and her mother. The car was struck multiple times, according to police.

As officers were on scene, another 911 call reported a woman being shot inside her home near the initial shooting location. The victim was standing near her front window when she heard the shots and was hit.

The suspect, identified as Cecelia Medina, who has no permanent address, was apprehended on Shepard Street shortly after the incident. Police also recovered a loaded Glock 17 with an extended magazine.

Medina was arraigned Sunday morning on the following charges:

    • Second-degree attempted murder
    • First-degree attempted assault (two counts)
    • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
    • First-degree reckless endangerment
    • Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon

If convicted of the highest charge, Medina faces up to 25 years in prison. She is scheduled to return to court on June 28 for a felony hearing and is being held without bail.

Police noted that Medina initially provided a false last name to officers. The 53-year-old shooting victim remains at ECMC with a gunshot wound to her lower abdomen and is listed in stable condition.
