Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - At the open of NHL Free Agency on Monday, the Buffalo Sabres have made a solid signing for their bottom-six forward group, inking Sam Lafferty to a two-year deal worth $4 million. TSN hockey insider Chris Johnston was the first to report the signing.

Lafferty can play wing or center, and was a key addition that helped make the Vancouver Canucks a better team last season. The 29-year-old played 79 games with the Canucks, scoring 13 goals and 11 assists for 24 points.

Lafferty was in 11 playoff games last year, playing a depth role in Vancouver.

At 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Lafferty has also played with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs. He’s played 289 career NHL games, scoring 36 goals and adding 47 assists for 83 points.

Lafferty is a player that's tough and very hard to play against. He has a relentless style of game, which is exactly what the Sabres need going forward.
