BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The NFTA will temporarily pause its above-ground Metro Rail service for 14 days in July due to construction, the organization announced Friday.

The pause, which spans from July 8-11 and July 20-29, will allow for “crucial track bed, catenary, and electrical system upgrades aimed at enhancing the safety and reliability of the Metro Rail system.” The work intends to ensure a smooth and safe travel experience for passengers while modernizing and fortifying track infrastructure.

The NFTA will provide a shuttle service running every 20 minutes between Allen Medical Campus and Canalside Station during the service suspension to minimize inconvenience. Transit employees will also be on-site to assist passengers.

“This work is part of our overall plan for rail renewal and necessary in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of our system,” said James Morrell, the NFTA’s director of public transit, in a release. “We appreciate the patience and understanding of our passengers during this temporary pause.”
