Man sentenced for string of burglaries in Buffalo, Amherst, Cheektowaga

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 33-year-old man of no permanent address was sentenced Friday to two to four years in prison in connection with a string of burglaries that occurred between December of 2022 and August 2023, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Officials said Javarius Bumpers stole a victim’s vehicle from the parking lot of a gas station convenience store On Dec. 19, 2022 on East Lovejoy Street. He was taken into custody and released on an appearance ticket.

On Feb. 20, 2023, Bumpers threw an object to break the glass at the entrance of a grocery store on the 900 block of Broadway, according to officials. He stole bookbags and candy from the store and was arrested the next day. On Feb. 12, he was arraigned in Buffalo City Court and released on his own recognizance.

Bumpers stole a vehicle from an auto dealership on March 24, 2023 on Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga. He was arraigned in Cheektowaga Town Court and held on $10,000 bail. On March 31, he stole merchandise from a convenience store on Wehrle Drive in Amherst.

Buffalo police responded to a burglary on April 6, 2023 on the 1700 block of Broadway. Bumpers had broken a window to gain entry into the store and was found a short time later with a bag containing store merchandise, officials said.

Bumpers stole merchandise from a store on Aug. 2, 2023 on the 1100 block of Genesee Street. He was arrested and arraigned later the same day and was held on bail set at $2,500 cash or bond.

Bumpers was sentenced as a second felony offender.
