In golf, Riverdale clinched victory at a quadrangular meet with a team score of 131 and Mason Smyser taking medalist honors with a score of 30. Additionally, United Township dominated Kewanee in girls' tennis, winning 9-0, while Sterling showcased their strength in swimming, defeating Morrison 96-56.

This past Friday night marked an official start to the 2024-2025 Monmouth-Roseville football season, as the Titans hosted their new Three Rivers conference rival Mercer County at Coach Dobry Field in Monmouth. It was a classic battle between two of the best in the state Friday night in Wilton, but when it was all over, the No. 4 Beavers put together a rally to top the No. 6 Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks 19-14. In a game heard on KCII, luck shined on Wilton first, following a Beaver punt, a Mid-Prairie turnover gave the Beavers a Golden chance, taking over at the Hawks 23, five plays later, Wilton was in the end zone when Drew Keith connected with Gatlin Rogers on a five yard scoring toss to put the home team up 7-0. The Mid-Prairie response came late in the first frame, a five play, 59-yard drive ended when Brady Weber went up top to Hudson Ehrenfelt on a 55-yard scoring strike and things were even at seven after one.

Hawks and Beavers Start Season With Top Ten Battle on KCII
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team starts 2024 with a road trip tonight when they travel to Wilton to face the Beavers. The Hawks begin the year ranked No. 6 in the Class 2A preseason poll from Radio Iowa. The Golden Hawks went 5-5 last year, including a first round playoff win over Northeast Goose Lake 49-18. The Hawks were 4-1, runners-up in Class 2A District 5. Mid-Prairie averaged 30 points per game last year while giving up 24 with 346 yards of offense per night, 174 on the ground. Top performers who return from last year include Brady Weber who was the leader under center, going 117 of 196 for 1,497 yards, 20 touchdowns and six interceptions. His top target was Cobi Hershberger with 27 grabs for 316 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground, Hudson Ehfenfelt had 189 carries for 1,178 yards and 12 touchdowns, and finished with 1,813 all-purpose yards. On defense, Kaden Kos led Mid-Prairie with 66.5 tackles. Mid-Prairie finished in the top 10 of Class 2A in 21 different individual and team categories including team passing touchdowns, rushing attempts, sacks, total completions, 1,566 passing yards, total yards, touchdowns and passing attempts. Individually Weber was there in pass completions, total touchdowns, pass yards, pass touchdowns and completion percentage. Ehrenfelt was top ten in all-purpose yards, carries and rush yards. Kos’ led 2A with 114 tackles and was top ten in sacks and touchdown catches . Ten Mid-Prairie players were selected All-District including returners Weber, Landon Kos and Kaden Kos, Conner Wiles, and Ehrenfelt who was also offensive MVP.

Monmouth-Roseville (1-0) outscored Mercer County (0-1) 44-6 in the second half to defeat the Golden Eagles 50-14 at Coach Dobry Field in Monmouth Friday. Mercer County led 8-6 at halftime before turning the ball over five times in the second half. The Titans finished the game with 322 rushing yards, 241 of them came in the second half. Payton Thompson rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries.
