First Alert Forecast | Another Hot And Humid Day
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - It was another morning in the mid-70s across the region, with high humidity already lending that steam-bath feel to all. We’ll be cruising through the 80s at lunchtime, if not 90-degrees itself, and that’s before adding the influence of humidity to the mix. A Heat Advisory will be in effect in the Huntington-Charleston corridor and parts of the southern coalfields as Heat Index values will reach triple digits before approaching showers provide some relief. We’ll be tracking a line of thundery downpours approach our western counties in Kentucky near midday, then seeing it progress through the rest of the area to the east during the afternoon. Downpours with lightning will affect afternoon events and backyard barbecues, adding as much as another inch or two of rain in some of the stronger cores. By evening, we’ll be seeing those showers exiting to the east and improving skies settling in time for the prime-time events at the festivals. The humidity will remain high right through tomorrow morning.
First Alert Friday for thunder
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -By early evening on Thursday, the atmosphere had settled into a stabler mode. The afternoon thunderstorms had rained themselves out paving the way for good fireworks conditions. In effect, the build-up of heat and humidity earlier had given way to a “tuckered-out” air mass that no longer had thunderous capabilities. Now overnight a new surge of energy can help to re-fire showers and thunderstorms but any such new flare up will be after concerts and fireworks have concluded.
