College Football will feature numerous changes in the upcoming 2024 season. With mass conference realignment going into effect and the College Football Playoff expanding to a 12-team format, it’s a different ball game. Because of this, the Alabama Crimson Tide likely won’t fall too far behind, if at all, as a result of the program entering a new era. It was an opportunity of a lifetime for new Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer. Days after taking the Washington Huskies to the national championship game, he was handpicked to be Nick Saban's successor in Tuscaloosa. We may never fully know the truth, but he beat out most notably Florida State head coach Mike Norvell for the gig. Norvell probably did not want to leave Tallahassee either.
Transfers for Alabama football to make biggest impact this season
Nick Saban was impactful in the NCAA transfer portal in his time as Alabama’s head coach. He pulled in names such as Jameson Williams, Jahmyr Gibbs, Henry To’oto’o, Jermaine Burton, Eli Ricks, Jaylen Key, and Trey Amos among others. Before the portal became popular, Saban landed guys like Jacob Coker, Richard Mullaney, Gehrig Dieter, and Landon Dickerson. Kalen DeBoer brought in some of his guys from Washington to the University of Alabama and is coaching other athletes the Crimson Tide got from the portal. Fall camp begins next week for the Tide, and we are continuing a series of players and positions that will be impactful.
