Springfield city manager withdraws from job search in Manhattan, Kansas
After being named one of four finalists for a city manager job in Manhattan, Kansas, Springfield City Manager Jason Gage has withdrawn his candidacy. Gage has worked for the city of Springfield for six years. Gage was hired in 2018 after working in Salina, Kansas, for 18 years also as city manager. Renovated Sams Chapel Reopening This Fall
One of the most notable buildings on the campus of Kansas Wesleyan University will reopen this fall, refurbished and remodeled. According to KWU, a fully renovated Sams Chapel will reopen Saturday, Oct. 19, as part of Homecoming 2024. The new performance space will be christened with a special concert, titled ‘Come Home,’ which will get underway at 7 p.m. and feature celebrated musical guests from KWU’s recent past. Aine Hakamatsuka ’12 and Christian McQueen ’18 are among those scheduled to perform.

Arrest Made in Coffeyville Murder
A Neodesha man is arrested in a murder investigation in Coffeyville. 41-year-old Ryan J. McCullough has been taken into custody for the charge of murder in the second degree. On May 5th, McCullough was involved in an altercation with the victim, 63-year-old David L. Wintjen, who passed a few days later. After an investigation by the Coffeyville Police Department, a warrant was issued for McCullough’s arrest.
Manhattan Levee Project has cost city 23 million year-to-date
City Commissioners will hear an update, next week, from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and City staff regarding the ongoing Manhattan Levee Project. The first phase of the project is nearly complete, and city staff are looking for direction on how to proceed with the next phases as projected costs have increased over $15 million since the 2019 project partnership agreement.
