Commissioners approve controversial residential subdivision
Bulloch County Commissioners met for their regular bi-monthly meeting on Tuesday evening, July 2, 2024. The meeting agenda included eight rezoning requests in addition to other county business. One of the most controversial of the evening was a proposed 81 home subdivision off of Horace Mitchell Road. The contentious rezoning proposal for a residential subdivision project in Bulloch County sparked heated debate as Attorney Steve Rushing representing FNT Investments LLC presented plans to the county commissioners for the subdivision. Fatal single vehicle crash closes Hwy. 46 in Bulloch County
A fatal single vehicle crash on Hwy. 46 in Bulloch County led to a temporary closure of the road between Old Register Way and Sinkhole Road. According to GSP a 74 year old man died in the crash. Based on the preliminary investigation they think he may have had a medical episode leading to the crash. He was the only occupant in the vehicle. GSP Corporal Aaron Ramirez is handling the crash investigation. Bulloch County Deputy Coroner Chuck Francis also responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. Deputy pursuit ends in Bulloch County, second chase in two days

Tragic accident claims life of pedestrian on Highway 301 South
A man tragically lost his life after being struck by a car while attempting to cross U.S. Highway 301 South on Friday evening outside of Statesboro, GA in Bulloch County. The incident occurred around 9:14 p.m. near Buddy's Truck Stop, located at 8741 South U.S. Highway 301. Bulloch County 911 quickly dispatched multiple emergency units to the scene, including Bulloch County Sheriff's Deputies, Georgia State Patrol (GSP) Troopers, Bulloch County EMS, and Bulloch County Fire. Armed Robbery in Statesboro Leads to Crash and OIS, Suspect Deceased, GBI Investigating
Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Thursday night to an armed robber at the Marathon Store on Hwy 80 East and observed the suspect vehicle, a large U-Haul truck. As deputies pursued the truck, it struck multiple law enforcement vehicles and almost hit deputies. Deputies followed the truck out Hwy 301 North past Clito Road, where Georgia State Troopers were able to stop the truck with a PIT Maneuver. The truck left the road, hit a power pole, and ended up in a wooded area. Ignoring verbal commands, the suspect then drove the truck toward the deputies. Multiple deputies and a trooper fired at him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. GBI is conducting an independent investigation. The suspect’s body will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Pooler for an autopsy.

UPDATE 8:15 pm - Mill Creek Regional Park has been re-opened. It is safe to enter the park. At 7:30 pm on Saturday, June 29, 2024 lightening alarms went off at Mill Creek Regional Park the location of the 2024 Firecracker Fest. Events were paused temporarily and guests were asked to return to their cars as a safety precaution.
