Bulloch County commissioners approve $13 million bond for new STEAM school
In a move set to enhance educational opportunities in the county, the Bulloch County Commissioners approved revenue bonds up to $13 million to finance the construction of a new Statesboro STEAM Academy. This decision was made during their regular bi-monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. The meeting, opened by Chairman Roy Thompson, included a prayer and pledge of allegiance led by Commissioner Anthony Simmons. Bulloch BOE purchasing 5 modular classrooms for two middle schools
At the July 11, 2024 Bulloch County Board of Education meeting, the Board approved five modular classrooms due to increasing student population at Southeast Bulloch Middle School and Langston Chapel Middle School. Two of the modular classroom buildings will be installed at SEBMS and three at LCMS. Each will include two classrooms. The Board also approved three changes to the Student Code of Conduct that amend and clarify the language used in defining consequences and procedure for misconduct. Around 1pm on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, the Statesboro library's newest literacy initiative, Story Walk, had its official ribbon-cutting ceremony on the picturesque McTell Trail, just behind the Statesboro-Bulloch County Library parking lot. Patrons gathered to begin the immersive story experience, led by Cindy Hatchell, Manager of Youth and Family Services. Readers should head to the trail and start their walk near the dog park. For the eleventh consecutive year, Prevent Child Abuse Bulloch and United Way of Southeast Georgia are partnering for their annual Back to School Supply Drive—Stuff the Bus. Our beloved Cleve Kinard, 62, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Lori Summerford Kinard, daughter Valarie (Adam) Thompson and son Bryce. His extended family includes grandchildren Emersyn and Blakely, sisters Linda Cartee, Joyce White, Ellen Bunch, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and even a few outlaws.
