GOP Legislators Special Guests at Bureau County Candidates' Fundraiser
A couple of GOP heavy hitters are going to bat in Bureau County for two Republican county-wide candidates. Congressman Darrin LaHood and Illinois State Representative Ryan Spain will be on hand at a reception in Princeton on August 7th. Both lawmakers are supporting Kurt Workman for Bureau County Coroner and Daniel Anderson for State's Attorney. You'll have a chance to get acquainted with the legislators and the candidates. The event is happening August 7th, from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are $40 per person or $75 per couple. Appetizers and beverages will be available. The event is paid for by the Bureau County Republican Women. LaHood and Spain will not be fundraising at the event.

The Princeton Public Library has announced a packed schedule of events for August. Highlights include the Read ‘Em and Weed Gardening Group, Page Turner’s Book Club, a historical presentation on Bureau County’s congressmen, an antique appraisal program, a journal-making workshop, Adult Coloring Night, a blood drive, and the monthly Writer’s Club meeting. Join the Fun at the Bureau County Metro Center's One-Day Nerf Event!
Exciting activities are planned at the Bureau County Metro Center Gymnasium this month, kicking off with a one-day Nerf event on Friday, July 19th. The event will start at noon, welcoming participants of different age groups throughout the afternoon. From 12:00 to 12:45 p.m., the gym will be dedicated to K-2nd graders, followed by 3rd-5th graders from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m., and concluding with 6th-8th graders from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. All Nerf darts will be provided, and participants can look forward to engaging in a variety of games.
The Princeton Closet awards 6 students scholarships
The Princeton Closet recently awarded scholarships to six students in memory of Shirley and Dale Espel. In April of 1969 the feet of migrant children were traced by teachers to find their correct shoe and boot sizes. Some church women were asked to help collect shoes for these children. This in turn led to Church Women United opening The Princeton Closet. Their hope was to provide reasonably priced shoes, clothing and other items for these migrant children and their families who were, perhaps, too proud to accept charity.
