Rutherford College, Hildebran have full slate of candidates as filing closes
Filing for council seats in the towns of Hildebran and Rutherford College closed Friday. The Burke County Board of Elections said the candidates who filed to run for the three seats up for election on the Rutherford College Town Council are Carroll Hoyle, Mark J. Stinson (incumbent) and James Huffman Jr. (incumbent).
New trail section of Burke River Trail to open in Valdese
The public is invited to a ribbon-cutting for a new section of Burke River Trail in Valdese at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 2. The new trail is made possible thanks to Burke County Public Schools, town of Valdese, N.C. Rep. Hugh Blackwell and volunteers. Located north of Draughn High School, the 0.6-mile natural surface trail will be called Wildcat Way. It is located on Burke County Public Schools property and the public trail easement will be held by the town of Valdese.

Morganton Woman Charged With Drug Offenses
33-year-old Jessica Lynn White of Bethel Road in Morganton was arrested Sunday (July 14) by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers. She’s charged with felony possession of schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. White was given a custody release, a District Court date is August 5.
Caldwell County Man Charged With Illegal Disclosure Of Images
25-year-old Jordan David Cramer of Peachtree Lane in Granite Falls was arrested Wednesday (July 17) by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony disclosure of private images. Cramer was brought to the Burke County Jail under a $3,000 secured bond. A District Court appearance was scheduled Thursday.
Draughn High School, Valdese Weavers evacuated due to gas leak
Valdese Weavers and Draughn High School were evacuated due to a natural gas leak Tuesday morning. Chris White, assistant director of Burke County 911 Center, said residents along a one-mile stretch on Lovelady Road from Crescent to Keizer streets were told to shelter in place and turn off their HVAC systems to prevent gas from getting into their homes.
