The Notre Dame football program opened up fall camp on Wednesday, giving the media their first access to the team since the spring. By all accounts, it was a strong first day for the Irish, who head into the 2024 season with extremely high expectations.

Following the practice wrapping up, head coach Marcus Freeman spoke to the media about various topics during his availability. Here are some of the topics that conversation centered around.

    • Coach Freeman was asked the generic question about getting some live action, and back into a routine. He spoke about the process and figuring out the makeup of this team.
    • There was a question about potentially naming a starting quarterback. Coach Freeman spoke about wanting to see the whole room continue to compete. There is no clear timeline for naming a starter, for now.
    • Heading into the spring, there have been a lot of questions and speculation about the offensive line. It was believed that there would be competition at several spots. Coach Freeman backed that up.
    • There have several additions this offseason on the player personnel and recruiting operations team. Coach Freeman was asked about how those have benefited the program, specifically the layer of women empowerment.
    • With the utilization of headsets in 2024, communication is going to be important. Freeman was asked about that layer, and how smoothly it has been translated.
    • There aren’t many position groups that have Notre Dame fans as excited as the running back room. There was a question about Freeman’s trust in that room, as well as figuring out roles and usage heading into the fall.

Here is the full interview from Coach Freeman’s press conference:

As always, Coach Freeman came off stoic and thorough in his responses during the media availability. Hearing the consistency on competition should be big for this Notre Dame program heading into the fall. Hearing the low number of injuries, on top of some of the inexperienced talent like Jeremiyah Love getting comfortable, was outstanding to hear.
