“Iowa GOP delegate observing national convention as professor, too” (Radio Iowa) Jeff Taylor, a political science professor at Dordt University in Sioux Center, was also a delegate at the GOP’s national convention in 2012. “Not only do I get new stories from this one, but the students are probably going to be able to relate to this experience a little more just because it’s happening right now,” Taylor said, with a laugh. “This fall and next year and the following year this is still going to be fresh in their mind.”
DNR Studying Ways to Increase Deer Population in Southwest Iowa
(Lewis) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources hosted several public meetings on the importance of managing the deer herd. John Lorenzen from the DNR Office in Lewis says some areas of the state, including southwest Iowa, currently show a significant drop in the deer herd needed to satisfy deer hunters.

OSKALOOSA — The Southern Iowa Fair hosted the 6th Annual Caleb Hammond Memorial Race on Wednesday, July 17th with a packed infield and a full grandstand on a beautiful night for racing at the Southern Iowa Speedway. The largest field of drivers in 2024 were in attendance gunning for their share of over $18,000 in prize money, thanks to the Southern Iowa Fair board and Race Committee along with event sponsors, Copeland Auto Body, Lathrop and Sons Supply of Albia and contributor Mike Stroehle.
