BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — A woman was shot and killed by her estranged husband in Burlington on Friday, and the husband took his own life, according to an Alamance County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Around 7:12 a.m., deputies responded to a shots fired call on Beaver Creek Road in southwestern Alamance County.

Man shot, killed in Greensboro at apartment on West Cornwallis Drive, police say

Arriving deputies found the body of a female victim who had been shot. The body was identified as Lourdes Vega.

Her body was found at a nearby home where she ran to escape the shooting.

Witnesses identified the shooter as her estranged husband, Victor Vega.

After the shooting, witnesses said Victor went back to the home on Beaver Creek Road where he had previously lived with Lourdes.

Deputies didn’t know where Victor was, so they requested the Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team and drones to search for him.

He was found in a detached garage on the property with what was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

During their separation, he lived in an apartment in Burlington.

    The investigation is ongoing.
