    Victim identified in fatal Burlington hit-and-run

    BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — The victim of a fatal hit-and-run in the Piedmont Triad has been identified by police.

    At around 4:08 a.m. on Tuesday, officers came to the area of South Church Street and Glendale Avenue after getting a report of someone being struck by a car that left the scene.

    Alamance County EMS and the Burlington Fire Department also responded and found the victim, later identified as 36-year-old Alicia Cearley of Burlington. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

    Investigators say that Irma Hernandez, 51, of Burlington, was later taken into custody and cooperated with the investigation.

    Hernandez was charged with driving without a license, felony hit-and-run causing death and exceeding a safe speed. She was given a written promise to appear and has since been released.
