BURLINGTON, NJ — The Armed Forces Heritage Museum and the Burlington County Historical Society are hosting a presentation fit for the Queen this weekend.
Richard Moody, retired Commander and Carrier Pilot from the British Royal Navy, will be presenting "Flying for the Queen" on Saturday, July 27 at 2PM.
Mr. Moody will be speaking about his experiences as a carrier pilot with the British Royal Navy, his time at Britannia Royal Naval College, and his travel with Queen Elizabeth II, in which he was appointed as a Navigator and Meteorologist on the Royal Yacht Britannia for Her Majesty's Royal Tour of Fiji, New Zealand and Australia in 1954.
From there, he received his Wings with the Royal Navy and was sent to fly with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era, becoming a member of the first staff of the Navy Fighter Weapons School — also known as Top Gun — in San Diego. Mr. Moody also flew as a pilot onboard two Royal Navy aircraft carriers operating in the Far East over a four-year period with time also spent operating from shore bases in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Western Australia.
Those who attend Saturday's presentation can enjoy photos and artifacts from Mr. Moody's time in both the Royal Navy and U.S. Navy. The event will also feature a Q&A session and light refreshments. A $5 donation is suggested to attend.
Saturday's event is taking place at the Corson Poley Center at the Burlington County Historical Society, located at 454 Lawrence Street in Burlington.
