The bi-annual UIL district realignments were announced last week in Bulldog Country and football saw quite a shift. For the past several years Burnet football has fallen into Region IV, District 13.

    (Find Sports on Pages 10-14.)

That placement aligned us with mostly Central Texas teams and Taylor from the east. This region had Burnet facing teams from the south in early rounds of the playoffs including opponents from the San Antonio area all the way to the coast.

Instead of Burnet hanging out in familiar territory they were shifted all the way to Region I, an area highly populated by West Texas teams.

While our new district plays host to some familiar teams outside of that the Dawgs will see lots of new teams for post-district play.

Burnet ended up being named a part of Region I District 4-4A. The district hosts Burnet, Brownwood, Lampasas, Marble Falls, and Stephenville. A slightly smaller district than the Dawgs are used

District… to playing in but one loaded with talent. Stephenville and Brownwood are both known for producing quality teams, year in and year out. Lampasas is certainly a squad on the rise, and with all the changing coming to Marble Falls it’s hard to predict what the Mustangs will bring to District 4 in the fall.

Early rumbles in 4A talk had this district pegged as an interesting one and certainly an area to keep your eye on.

So what else does Regional I have to offer? The other three districts fluctuate greatly in size. Taking a look at District 3, which is the home to District 4 bi-district opponents, you have Andrews, Big Spring, Pecos, and San Angelo Lake View. Yep, that’s it. The whole district. So before a single snap happens in 2024 this district has qualified for the playoffs.

Jump over to District 2. This district features six teams, including three Canyon schools as well as Dumas, Hereford, and Pampa.

If you ended up in 4A District 1, you’ve got some work to do. This district houses nine, yes nine, district teams. You get one warm-up game and that’s it in this far West Texas category. District 1 is comprised of two Clint schools, five El Paso schools, as well as Fabens and San Elizario.

No official schedules have been released as coaches scramble to fill spots for pre-district play. With districts from across the state uneven it makes it hard to find opponents with open spots at the same time you do.

Burnet’s volleyball teams will remain in Region III District 24-4A but won’t face all the same opponents. The district jumped from a six team grouping to seven. Burnet, Gateway, Jarrell, Lampasas, and Marble Falls all stayed in the district. Lago Vista left the party, while Salado and Taylor joined. The district is expected to be one to watch with several teams, including Burnet, known for their volleyball teams.

The new basketball district mimicked volleyball housing the same teams. Lago Vista also left this Region III 24-4A club, and once again Taylor and Salado joined the mix.

District 23, early playoff round teams, also remained close to the same with Burnet facing teams just to the North in the Waco area.

The Fall seasons for the Dawgs and the Lady Dawgs will bring some changes including a few new coaches sprinkled in and new opponents as well, but building off the recent success of all of Burnet’s teams it’s a challenge our athletes and their leaders are ready for.
