Burnet is on track to get two new businesses that are expected to give the city an economic boost.

City Manager David Vaughn announced April 5 that a Tractor Supply store and a Marriott hotel both are set to build in Burnet. Both will occupy properties sold to them by the city’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC).

Tractor Supply will build at State Hwy. 29 and Richard Sanders Pkwy. on the city’s east side. The store is expected to open by the end of the year, Vaughn said.

A new Marriott Towneplace Suites will be built on property on U.S. Hwy. 281 near the airport. The hotel will include 87 rooms and 3,000 square feet of meeting space. This project is expected to break ground this summer and will be opening by the summer of 2025.

“The EDC has worked diligently for years to create the types of opportunities and developments the community supports,” Vaughn stated in a press release. “Both of these projects will be great additions to our community.”

Economic development corporations are funded by a voter-approved city sales tax, in Burnet’s case a half-cent. That money can be spent for such things as sorts, entertainment or tourist facilities, business incentives, and manufacturing or industrial development.

Burnet’s EDC has a seven-person city council-appointed board, one of whom is Vaughn.
