Lawrence Hollins has been appointed as the new publisher of Down East magazine, effective immediately. “This appointment marks a significant step forward for the magazine, promising continued excellence and innovation in serving our readers and customers,” said Down East, in a July 10, 2024 news release. “Lawrence joined Down East in 2007 as a member of the advertising staff and quickly demonstrated exceptional leadership, resulting in his promotion to advertising director. WCMP Diabetes Services to offer foot care clinics
BELFAST — Waldo County General Hospital will begin offering diabetic foot care clinics for patients beginning early this fall. The day-long clinics, which will run by appointment only out of the hospital’s diabetes care offices at 119 Northport Ave., in Belfast, will provide foot care including nail trimming, callous removal and wound identification. The practice plans to offer clinics once or twice a month, depending on patient volume.

The fun begins at 4 p.m., on Saturday, August 3, at 26 Veterans Way, in Palermo, as people gather for a celebration of summer in the Palermo Community Garden behind the gray mobile home. There is plenty of parking. The scent of fruitwood barbeque emanates from the Grape Arbor, where the tents and tables welcome guests with cooling beverages and home-cooked pulled pork, turkey, cornbread, cowboy beans, tempting desserts, and more. Tickets are only $10 for adults and $5 for youth 6-12. Little kids are free. Grace O’Brien will have tickets available at the gate. This will happen rain or shine, and takeouts are available. At 6 p.m., the firepit will be lit and folks can gather around it to hear Anthony Semenovich play his guitar and sing.

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said that the issue believed to be behind the outage was not a security incident or cyberattack — and that a fix was on the way.
