On July 16, it was an active night through Mid-Michigan with thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, leaving trees split in half and homes without power, with the most reported in Jackson County.

Severe storms bring more heavy rain to West Michigan
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Severe thunderstorms racing across West Michigan late Monday night and early Tuesday morning created vivid lightning and dropped more heavy rain on already saturated ground. The storms first moved onto the Lake Michigan shoreline around 11 p.m. Monday and moved steadily eastward until clearing the area by 3 a.m. Tuesday. Doppler radar estimated rainfall showed the heaviest precipitation fell in an east to west stripe that roughly followed I-94 where between 2.5" and 4.0" of rain may have fallen.
