Meeting of the minds share hopes, ideas
IMLAY CITY — It was an evening for a meeting of the minds, of sorts, with a common goal of improving the region. Officials from Imlay City and Imlay Twp. and other members of the public, attended a brainstorming session at the Imlay City Fire Hall July 11 to share ideas and explore ways of making the area a better place to live, work and play.

100th Bayview Mackinac race begins Saturday
The 100th Port Huron to Mackinac race begins Saturday morning, and the race is already breaking records. With 324 sailing teams registered to start the race, race committee chairman Charlie Trost says that is the highest amount ever, surpassing a previous record of 316 boats that was set in 1985. One of the changes this year is the race course, with all boats taking the same course, retracing the original 1924 course.
4 arrested in smuggling attempt on St. Clair River
U.S. Border Patrol agents recently arrested four people illegally crossing the Canada border near Michigan on a boat, federal officials reported. On June 25, agents from the Marysville Border Patrol Station spotted the boat landing on the U.S. shoreline of the St. Clair River after starting in Canadian waters, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency announced in a Tuesday press release.

Richmond parish festival on the go with fan-favorite events
St. Augustine Catholic Church is on the go with golfing, a cruise-in and cornhole this summer, as the church’s annual Parish Festival returns to Richmond Aug. 8 to 11. Festival Chairperson Valerie Oehmke said via email on July 5 that the St. Augustine Parish Festival remains the church’s largest fundraiser of the year. Although there is no cost to attend the festival as a whole, proceeds raised from individual activities at the festival benefit the church.
Incumbent Lenox Township supervisor challenged in primary
Incumbent Lenox Township Supervisor Anthony Reeder Jr. is facing opposition in the Aug. 6 primary election. Reeder, a Republican, is being challenged by Scott Clifford, a Republican and current township trustee.
