Port Huron to Mackinac Race comes to an end

The race got off to a slow start, being delayed nearly two hours Saturday due to lack of wind on lower Lake Huron. Wind conditions changed later in the day, giving a boost to some of the larger and faster boats in the race. The first to cross the finish line was Wizard in Class A shortly after 1pm Sunday. The leader for much of the race was Maverick, who also won the Chicago to Mackinac Race, but had to withdraw due to a mast failure. As of Monday morning, much of the fleet was in a line between Mackinac Island and Rogers City. The remaining boats are expected to finish Monday afternoon.
Wrong way I-69 crash results in critical injuries
A head-on collision last night on I-69 in Capac resulting in critical injuries to a wrong-way driver. Police were called on reports of light-colored sedan driving in the wrong direction on Westbound I-69 near the Capac Road exit began coming in just before 10 pm. A short time later, the vehicle reportedly collided with a pick-up truck hauling a recreation trailer, east of the exit. The driver of the sedan was extricated by local fire crews and airlifted to an Ann Arbor area hospital with reports of serious injuries to both legs. They were last known to be in critical condition. The truck’s driver declined on-site medical treatment. The crash forced a closure of westbound I-69 and one lane of the eastbound span during rescue, clean-up, and investigation.
