Block & Drum Looking to Soft Open in a Few Weeks

Chamblee's micro-distillery, music venue, tasting room, café and food hall is nearing completion, owner Justin Staples shared with Business Debut. Staples, a former management consultant for several global spirits manufacturers, reported that their distillery and tasting room could soft open in as soon as three weeks.

The Block & Drum concept is ambitious, including a café (which has soft opened), outdoor stage, 8,000-square-foot courtyard, micro distillery, tasting room that doubles as a high-fidelity vinyl listening room, three shipping container-based food concepts and a hydroponic farm producing all of the botanicals used for distilling.

Staples reported that the tasting and vinyl listening room are nearly complete. He foresees hosting a soft opening in a matter of weeks, with a grand opening occurring sometime after Labor Day. The room will represent an engaging musical and tasting experience, Staples reported.

Guests will also be able to tour the shipping container-based hydroponic farm and distillery to get insight into the distilling process. Staples intends for the tasting room and distillery to create an experience for his guests, much like a winery would for wine tasters.

The container-based kitchens won't open for another three months or so, Staples said. It is still unknown who will lease the kitchens, but Business Debut will update this coverage as soon as the information is released.

Nonetheless, the café on the premises is open from 9 am - 1 pm on weekends; and the courtyard, stage, and listening and tasting room will debut soon. While guests wait on the kitchens to open later this year, Block & Drum will have food trucks come and sell food in the meantime.
