At least one attendee and the suspected shooter have died after gunshots rang out at former President Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger said.

Goldinger told CNN’s Anderson Cooper that one additional spectator was injured and taken to a local hospital. A statement from the Secret Service shortly after said two attendees at the rally were critically wounded.

The Secret Service also said in the statement that the suspect fired multiple shots toward the stage where Trump was from an “elevated position” outside the venue.

“I think that’s something that we’re going to have to figure out how he got there,” Goldinger said.

The Secret Service’s statement said the situation is under investigation and the agency has notified the FBI.

Secret Service agents rushed Trump off stage after sounds that resembled gunshots were heard shortly after his rally began. He was escorted away by agents who surrounded his entire body while leading him off the outdoor stage. He was seen with blood above his right ear and was pumping his fists toward the crowd as he was being led to his SUV.

Goldinger said he did not yet have any information about the shooter and described the scene as “chaos.”
