Pennsylvania mayor promised Trump victory before shooting: ‘Butler County is going to deliver’

As former President Donald Trump recovers from an assassination attempt in Butler County, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, the Republican stronghold is rooting for him to make a strong comeback this November.

Butler County, where Trump held his fateful rally last week, bleeds scarlet red in a battleground state that Biden narrowly won in 2020. In that election, Trump won the blue-collar county with 65% of the vote compared to 32% for Biden.

Jondavid Longo is the mayor of Slippery Rock, a small town of just over 3,500 people under 30 minutes from Butler. According to the Los Angeles Times, on the day of the doomed Pennsylvania rally, Longo promised Trump he’d secure a win for him this November.

“Mr. President, Butler County is going to deliver Pennsylvania to you,” the mayor told Trump minutes before a gunman opened fire on the former president. “We’re working hard.”

Butler County residents continued to rally around the president in the wake of the political violence that shook locals last Saturday.

Lori Sarver says she has lived in the area for 40 years and regrets voting for Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. Now she supports Trump because of his immigration and economic policies.

Meanwhile, longtime Butler County resident Amy Bocci was brought to tears by Saturday’s startling events, telling the newspaper there is “such a love of Trump" in her town.

Longo backed up Bocci's words, saying he believes “the things Butler County residents believe are embodied by Trump.”

The mayor says his county just wants “to be able to go work, make a living, and put food on the table without the government sticking their hands in their pockets.”

Longo is hopeful his state can turn the tide of the election and deliver Trump a victory this November.

“As Pennsylvania goes, so goes the White House,” the small-town mayor reportedly said.
