After an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, the governor of Florida and other state officials shared their thoughts on social media.

Trump's campaign said in a statement that the former president was "fine" after the shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania. A local prosecutor said the suspected gunman and at least one attendee are dead.

    Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis:

"[Florida First Lady"] Casey DeSantis and I are praying for Donald Trump and his family."

    Florida U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio:

"Praying for President Trump and all those attending the rally in Pennsylvania today."

    Florida U.S. Sen. Rick Scott:

"This was clearly an assassination attempt on President Trump. I’m glad he seems okay, and I am praying for him and all who were at the rally. There is ZERO tolerance for violence. I hope this monster is already caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

Scott later sent a statement calling for "immediate answers":

"The assassination attempt on President Trump and murder of an innocent American demands immediate answers from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the U.S. Secret Service. It is a miracle that President Trump is alive and well but absolutely inexcusable that the deranged would-be assassin had a direct line of sight to the former president and the leading candidate for President of the United States. The U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs (HSGAC) has an oversight responsibility and an obligation to the American people to demand answers from DHS and the U.S. Secret Service on how this happened and what steps are being taken to investigate this assassination attempt and make sure it never happens again. Chairman Gary Peters must immediately hold a HSGAC hearing, before August 1 st , with testimony from these agencies and deliver the answers that we as U.S. Senators and the American people demand and deserve from our government. The security of our Republic is being questioned and we as a nation need answers."

    Florida Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez:

"President Trump is a fighter. Let’s come together to pray for President Trump."

    U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel

"I’m horrified by what happened at former President Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. Political violence has no place in our country—period."

    U.S. Rep. Brian Mast

"Brianna and I are praying for President Donald Trump and his family. Stay strong and keep the faith."

    State Rep. Erin Grall

"Praying for President Trump & those in attendance at today’s rally. I'm shocked by this apparent assassination attempt & deeply troubled at the level of hostility demonstrated by those who oppose President Trump. The political violence must end- it's a direct attack on democracy."

    State Rep. Randy Fine

"Pray for him. Pray for our country."

Nikki Fried, Chair of the Florida Democratic Party

"In America, political disagreements should never turn into violence. My thoughts are with former President Trump, the families of the victims and the people in the crowd."

Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg

"Political differences should never lead to violence. Glad that former President Trump is ok and hoping no one else was hurt. No matter how frayed, our democracy and our political culture are better than this."

    Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer

"Praying for President Donald Trump, the family of the rally attendee who was murdered tonight, the continued safety of our first responders, an end to acts and threats of violence, and that our nation grows stronger."
